Quit Smoking With Me

My name is Kelly and I have been smoking for 21 years. That sounds horrible especially since I am only 33 years old. I picked up my first cigarette when I was 12. If only I could go back in time and smack it right out of my own hand.

I am going to quit smoking. I am not sure if it will be later today, maybe tomorrow or possibly next week. Sound familiar? The truth is that I feel an urgent need to do it soon. I don’t know if my body is trying to tell me something like “do it soon or you will reach a point of no return”.

I have a lot to say about smoking. I won’t try to do it all in one post. I have 21 years worth of smoke talk and its effects on my way of living.

I do want to ask you to join me. Do you want to quit smoking? Are you thinking about it just a little? Have you already quit smoking? What I would like is to build a community here. I know there are thousands of quit smoking sites out there. I ask you to join mine. I started this on January 1st, 2008 for a reason. I want this to be the year of my success. It can be yours too. You will never get any pressure from me.

You can join this blog in two ways. You can participate by commenting or you can be a regular poster here. It is open to anyone that wants to talk about quitting smoking cigarettes. You can contact me if you would like to post to this blog and I will get you all set up. I am positive that together we can get this done!!!

I would love to quit smoking! I have tried the gum (about 15 years ago, yuck!), the pill, ear acupressure and the patch (allergic either terrible red patches and painful muscle aches). All of these with no luck of completely quitting =( Down to 5 per day is the best that I have ever done for any length of time...

This is a great idea for a blog, you can count me in.

If you don't mind, I would like to add you link to my blog http://txmedicalfreak.blogspot.com

I will also email your link to my smoking friends and relatives. Let's start the new year "smoke free".

I am happy to have you with me! I actually quit once for seven days and was so happy! Then, I had a bad moment and picked one up and here I am a few years later still smoking. Ugh. Hey, let me know if you would like to become a contributing author here on the blog. I would welcome your input :)

ohmigoodness, what timing. I'm not ready. E'time I see my sweet dil, I think she/we need to quit smoking. It's so unhealthy, unacceptable, and so much hassle. Now today, she sends me this and says -Are You IN?".

I know in my heart, I will never be READY, not really. I'm one of the only people I know who has NEVER attempted to quit. The very thought of life without a cigarette sends me into a complete panic meltdown.

E'body I know, and some were really heavy smokers have quit. My mother, my husband, many friends...

Not me. But maybe with support.... I can't say I'm in, but I'm definitely not out.

Devonia,

I know what you mean about not being ready. I always think I am ready but freak out shortly after I quit so I guess I was not READY. Like I said in the first post, no pressure here, no judgements here. It is just a place for people to talk about it and think about it and share. Welcome!

Hello Kelly,

Thanks for starting this blog.

I have been wanting to quit smoking since my son was born 6 years ago, but have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do so.

Last year in January, I was ready to quit. Then 3 days after I had my last cigarette, an ice storm hit and we lost all power when the power-lines went down. Luckily we had one room with a fireplace, so we camped out there for 2 weeks while we waited to get our power back on.

Being trapped in one room with hubby, 2 kids and my mother-in-law without TV or being able to go anywhere, I still managed to go 6 more days without smoking.

When my sister came by to check on us, she lit up a cigarette and layed her pack down on the table. Out of habit, I just automatically picked them up, took one out and lit it.

I had made it 9 days without even wanting one and that was all it took to get me back to smoking again.

I think that by coming here and sharing with others, I will be able to try again.

Thanks again!

Welcome EJ! I am so happy to have you here with us. That is exactly why I started this blog. I was hoping to start a little community that could help support each other. So far, we have a great group of people and I just know we can get through this :)
