Update

Hey everyone,

Thought I would drop a post on this group blog, just to introduce myself and my progress in trying to quit smoking.

I made the decision to quit in early February, having been a smoker for over five years. Going from smoking one pack a day to nothing at all was a real challenge, especially as I'm in my final semester at university - probably the most stressful period in my life that I have encountered thus far. The first month was the toughest; all my friends would pop outside the pub for a cigarette and I'd be left inside on my own - those are the times when you really feel like giving in. But I persevered and kept focussed. Then came the set-back of having an influx of job rejections (I'm trying to find a graduate job at the moment). However, I stuck to it and didn't give in. Not once. No matter how much I wanted to smoke, I just took a deep breath, and said to myself 'No'.

I now haven't smoked for almost 2 months. I think I'm over the worst of it, but you never know what's round the corner. However, I'm confident of achieving success.

If anyone needs any advice on how to quit - I've come up with a few exercises that might be of help. Let me know if you're interested; I'd be happy to help.

Anyways, hope all is good.

Joey

Hi Folks, I struggled quitting my smoking. I had quit couple of times only to go get into relapse within a few months. One of my friend Vipassana which I did for 10 days. It was hard, but then my inherent mental strength improved so much that I didn`t touch smoking. Its been 10 months so far.

I would ask you guys to do Vipassana (which is a form of meditation). best of luck

I know Will Power is all it takes to get over Smoking. Remember, this will power should be sustained over a period of time. There`ll be many highs/low`s in life & this is where the mind would seek solace in smoking. & the Will Power is overpowered by those "Highs/Low`s".

For me, Vipassana helped me. The 10 day meditation retreat helped me know and understand what`s going on in my own mind. The good part is its free (Boarding & Lodging). But yes, its really really tough.

I agree with some of the ideas here. I myself recently stopped smoking, about 3 weeks now.

I tried a lot of stuff before like nic patches, nic gums, even professional help but to no avail all those didn't work for me.

Then my friend told me about how he quit smoking literally overnight! I didn't believe him at first but then he gave me this site: http://goo.gl/tRIXgw , everything turn around and very thankful for this because it helped me from 2 packs of marlboro reds a day to zero!

This will definitely help you stop smoking today!
